Talk/Show/Case

The 2021 International Israel Music Showcase Conference

Nov. 28th 2021 – Sunday – Abraham Hostel – Tel Aviv

4:30PM – 10:15PM

For the past 12 years, Showcase has brought the finest international industry professionals to Israel, in order to expose them to the local musical export. As is tradition, the final day of the festival will feature the international music industry conference known as Talk / Show / Case, where we will get the chance to hear from our guests’ rich industry experience, alongside some prominent leaders of the Israeli industry.

This year, the conference will be especially large and fancy – featuring dozens of international guests and Israeli professionals: managers, agents, producers, publicists, writers and musicians.

The conference deals with deep ongoing issues from the Israeli and international music scenes. It is designed particularly for the people of the Israeli music community, as well as its active musicians, and offers a unique experience full of fascinating research and exchange.

Among participants and speakers are:

Carmen Rizzo (US), Jordi Jaime i Bofill (ES), Svenja Mahlstede (DE), Tamir Muskat (IL), Takuya Salam Unagami (JP), Asaf Talmudi (IL), Marilyne Lacombe (FR), Katrina Lopes (CA), Ori Winokor (IL), Pia Hoffmann (DE)

and many more…

Throughout the day, there will be workshops, personalized meetings, depth talks with some of the most important music people from Israel and overseas, forums and panels, exhibitions, music film screenings, and lectures built to take the local music industry one step forward.

All that and much more will be taking place at the Abraham Hostel in Tel Aviv, in 4 different areas – providing a wide range of opportunities to learn, share, network and party – alongside a central and casual “hang” area.

Following the end of the conference, we will continue on to the festival closing party at the Kuli Alma club, with DJ and electronic artist MITA GAMI.

* More info and pre-registration options will be announced very soon, on the festival website. Stay tuned.

Conference program managers: Itamar Bernstein / Gil Rubio / Hadas Vanunu

Participants: Michael A. C. Johannesen (FO), Vlad Yaremchuk (UA), Pekka Tähkävuori (FI)

Language: English

Have we already returned to “the good old days” in regards to live music shows? How should we deal with the restrictions in different regions of the world? What are the effects of complication on traveling artists? And where is this all headed?

In this talk, featuring participants from different parts of the world, we will attempt to compose a situation report of where we currently stand and where we are headed in the post-pandemic world.

How dependent are we on the old terms of genre-based markets?
Participants:  Jordi Jaime i Bofill (ES), Gil Karniel (IL)

Language: English

Description:

Where does jazz begin and rock music end? What is world music and what does making indie music mean in today’s world? Genres have always been useful to both industry people and music lovers, while confusing them all in the same breath. In honor of the “mixed” edition of Israel Music Showcase we pose the question – is there still a real need to separate music on the genre level? Or can we go ahead and mix everything up together?

What are the 2021 expectations from the curation process?

What is the importance of location and its distribution in regards to experiencing artistic content? How much should continuity be taken into consideration? How much thought is given to the overall experience, as opposed to each separate frame and goal?

  1. Title: Gender-Balance, Outside the Spotlight:

How can we balance gender representation in the technical, managing and producing fields of the music business?

Participants: Katrina Lopes, Flora (Liron Meshulam)

Language: English
Description:

What are the obstacles blocking an egalitarian gender division in various “offstage” positions and professions? Production, sound & lighting tech and design, artistic direction, etc. – despite a growing trend of gender balance onstage, we still see gaps behind the scenes that are not catching up. Is it due to career considerations? Academic obstruction? Perhaps a lack of distinct female “legacy” in these realms? In this discussion, we dive deep into the topic.

Junun

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson

Min”54 20:05-21:00

Production: Pippa Robinson, Erica Frauman

Production Studio: Ghoulardi Film Company

Editor: Andy Jurgensen

Camera: Paul Thomas Anderson, Nigel Godrich, Sharona Katan, Ian Patrick, Arne Warmington

Soundtrack: Sam Petts-davies, Christopher Scarabosio

Original Music: Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, Rajasthan Express

About:
Best-selling album “Junun” was born from the extraordinary musical combination of poet/musician Shye Ben Tzur, “Radiohead” guitarist Jonny Greenwood, and the indian group “Rajasthan Express”. Over twenty musicians gathered in the Mehrangarh fort, a large and magnificent castle built in northern India in the mid-15th century, to record what would quickly (and rightfully) become a major hit. The film attentively follows the creative processes that took place over the three weeks of recording at the fort, including all the moments of inspiration, the misgivings, and mutual creative fertilization. This collaborative effort gave birth to unique songs that combine Hebrew poetic texts with Sufi mystical music, singing in Urdu and a sound that travels from jazz to gypsy rhythms, and from lamentation to dance. Against a backdrop of local landscapes and small peeks into the nearby town, it is this musical affluence that makes up the beating heart of the film.

TINY FINGERS:
The Fall – Live At The Dead Sea

Director: Oren Ben David

50 Min” 21:35-22:15

Co-Director & Editor: Guy Zakh

Director of Photography: Ilya Marcus

Production: Asaf Ben David

about:

At sunrise, ‘Tiny Fingers’ had begun playing its album “The Fall” fully and continuously, over the northern shores of the Dead Sea.

The one hour long film brings together the unique performance of the live music with a documentation of nature cinematography capturing the multitude of views, shades and landscapes surrounding the ever changing region.

The film begins in complete darkness and accompanies the band and nature from early twilight up to the moment when the first ray of light touches the soil of the lowest place on Earth.

A one-time dialogue formed between a musical piece and nature, between the personal and universal as those encounter in perfect harmony at sunrise.
